Over the weekend a friend made a random joke about MXPX. I laughed and was like, “okay, but I can’t hate. MXPX was responsible for the first bass line I ever learned…”
At the same time we both immediately blurted: “CHICK MAGNET!”
Turns out it was his first bass…
Mine was either “She’s Lost Control” or “In The Meantime” by Spacehog....

I can’t get to the NSF website to finish my ALA slides, so I’ll post this instead. All of this is of course subject to if I decide I like some other band better, or if I randomly run into someone I know from KRLX and decide to hang out with them for a while (which happens roughly every other Pitchfork so I’m due this year).

our team name was “Garrett Says Relax” (Garrett runs trivia night on Wednesdays) and at halftime he played “Relax” which I like to think was a direct response to our name, and if it was it was one of my greatest triumphs of living here

An old friend from high school posted on his facebook that he was at Q101’s Jamboree! (check out that lineup). That is Chicago’s alt-rock radio station. It got me thinking of people from my past who stopped finding music. Like their entire musical identity was set in fucking stone at age 15….
